“The time is now to legalize cannabis in PA – lawmakers must pass adult-use cannabis legalization upon return this fall”

Harrisburg, PA. (SEPT. 11) – Following the presidential debate in Philadelphia last night, ResponsiblePA echoes support for Former President Donald Trump’s remarks in loosening federal cannabis restrictions and is signaling this shift for PA’s lawmakers to significantly advance the state’s cannabis laws.

In a post to Truth Social this week, Trump said that it was time to “end needless arrests and incarcerations of adults for small amounts of marijuana for personal use.” 

In recent days, he has also confirmed his support for federal cannabis rescheduling, banking reforms, and supporting states rights to pass legalization laws like a current Florida ballot measure going to voters this November. 

The timing coincides with a new public opinion survey by Ragnar Research, reported by Marijuana Moment, showing voters strongly support marijuana reform in the key presidential election swing states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. Eighty-four percent of respondents are in favor of medical cannabis and 62 percent backing broader adult-use legalization.

“Cannabis is not a partisan issue as former President Trump’s support for federal rescheduling, SAFE Banking, and Florida’s legalization measure demonstrate. The political cards have never been more clear for PA lawmakers including our Republican controlled Senate: pass adult-use cannabis this fall with no delay,” said Brittany Crampsie, Spokeswoman, ResponsiblePA

“Pennsylvania will play a key role in this presidential election, and Trump’s support of a state-level marijuana initiative will likely bring even more support in Pennsylvania for passing legalization. Republicans and Democrats alike agree on the positive impacts cannabis legalization has on states. Pennsylvania’s lawmakers have viable, sound, bipartisan adult-use cannabis proposals in front of them – it’s time to act this fall,” said Meredith Buettner, President, Pennsylvania Cannabis Coalition.

“As a third-term Republican DA in small town Pennsylvania, I have always said cannabis legalization and sensible regulation is a bipartisan political issue. We need to legalize adult-use marijuana in Pennsylvania with sensible regulation that obliterates the thriving illicit market, gives clear guidance to law enforcement and provides a quality regulated product that benefits PA Farmers, small business and the People of Pennsylvania,” said Rob Greene, District Attorney, Warren County.

Lawmakers throughout the Commonwealth are returning to Harrisburg this September.
