While PA Lawmakers Work to Advance Adult-Use Cannabis Legalization and Legalization Polls at +60% in Contested House and Senate Districts

(Harrisburg, PA, Oct.15) ResponsiblePA applauds Vice President Kamala Harris for supporting the federal legalization of cannabis in the United States, if elected president, and before her campaign stop in Philadelphia this week.

Said ResponsiblePA Brittany Crampsie:

“Vice President Kamala Harris’ support for cannabis legalization is a historic moment for the United States as well as the state of the Commonwealth. After polling major ‘toss-up’ House and Senate districts in Pennsylvania, we know voters in our state agree cannabis legalization can be a way to bring more fairness and justice to communities unfairly targeted by the war on drugs. Polling also shows support for legalization is high, regardless of party or geographics. We welcome Harris’ remarks and wish to remind PA lawmakers that her position underscores that responsible, regulated cannabis legalization is commonsense reform for today.”

Said Cherron Perry-Thomas, Founder of the PA-based Diasporic Alliance for Cannabis Opportunities (DACO):

“Vice President Harris’ recently revealed policy plan for social and economic justice is key to engaging communities who have felt marginalized and left out of policy discussions. Too many people are still suffering from obsolete cannabis laws and it’s about time this country starts to address the harm.”

Harris’ remarks represent a significant step forward in the fight for cannabis reform and comes as the presidential nominee plans to make a stop in Philadelphia this week. The 2024 elections in Pennsylvania’s House districts will be closely contested, with cannabis legalization emerging as a key issue with strong support.

Recent independent polling shows favorable views of cannabis legalization in Pennsylvania – at over 60 percent – in both House and Senate “toss-up” districts, data which can be viewed here and here.

More so, the ResponsiblePA campaign recently launched a Harrisburg-based advertising campaign, featuring a billboard, highlighting a point upon which presidential candidate Donald Trump, presidential candidate Kamala Harris and Gov. Josh Shapiro all agree on – cannabis legalization.

A bipartisan proposal House Bill 2500has been introduced to legalize adult-use cannabis in Pennsylvania. Both chambers of Pennsylvania’s legislature have returned to the state Capitol for the fall session.

ResponsiblePA is a coalition with the goal to help support the legalization of adult-use cannabis in 2024. With 90 percent of PA’s neighboring states already legalizing cannabis and a robust medical operation in Pennsylvania for nearly a decade – the ResponsiblePA coalition believes now is the time to legalize cannabis. We must create a solid social equity structure in Pennsylvania to be prepared for cannabis legalization.
